A person could take the course with the intention of:

  • 1. Becoming a Registered Professional Home Economist in the province of Ontario under Bill cPr38, 1989

    In this case you would: progress through the course taking the quizzes to check your understanding throughout, have up to four, 1 hour sessions (or time equivalent) with a P.H.Ec. mentor, complete the final reflection project with will be assessed for understanding of the field of professional Home Economics. After satisfactory competition of the course you will be recommended to the Board of Directors to have the P.H.Ec. Designation conferred to you. It is understood that one must have the educational and professional credentials to become a P.H.Ec. under the legislation and according to our bylaws.

  • 2. Professional Development

    You could take this course if you are working in the area of Home Economics and/or Family Studies Education and would like to gain deep researched based knowledge in the history and discipline of Home Economics from a trusted source. (I.e. you are not eligible to be a registered P.H.Ec. in Ontario). In this case you would: progress through the course taking the quizzes to check your understanding throughout, acquire PD hours that you could use at your workplace, have up to three, half hour sessions with a P.H.Ec. mentor, not be required to complete the final reflection project. In this case upon completion of the course will receive a "Certificate in Home Economics" granted by the Ontario Home Economics Association for professional development purposes to put on your C.V., you understand that you may not call yourself an Ontario Professional Home Economist (P.H.Ec.).  This designation has liscenture professional status granted by the government of Ontario under Bill cPr, 1989 so (Those who hold the prescribed qualifications under the Act may only call themselves P.H.Ec.'s.)
